Item: Woven Wheat Victorian Cross
Suggested Value: $40
Description: The craft of weaving wheat, which is also known as "corn dolly" making, is an age-old art. The name "corn dolly" came from Europe, where all grain was called corn and where the weavings were made in the shape of a maiden to represent the fertility of the grain. The beautiful ornaments, regarded as the resting places of the corn spirit, were kept in the home until the next harvest to endure the continuation of crops. Thus, the "corn dollies" were symbolic of good fortune.
